About Custom Commissions

Custom artwork is a true pleasure to create; it is a thrill to combine my customer’s vision with my own style and process. A personalized painting can be the perfect way to complement an interior design project or office renovation, or even to commemorate a special event. Many of my customers loved an earlier piece, but needed a different size or a customized color palette.

About the Process

The process begins with a questionnaire and a consultation; we’ll discuss your space, inspiration, colors, and ideas you have for your custom piece. I will invoice 50% as a deposit, then based on our discussion I will create a “mood board”—a visual source of inspiration for the piece—and we will review it together to incorporate your feedback and make changes so that the board represents your goals for the piece. Mural clients also receive a digital design for approval.

I will keep you updated along the way and eagerly look forward to sharing the final piece with you! I will request a formal sign-off before varnishing and finalizing the piece, and will collect the remaining 50% payment at that time. The entire process typically takes 3-5 weeks; murals require 1-2 days on-site.

Please contact me for more information about this process or to start your next commission!

Here is an example mood board from a recent commission. This customer requested a new piece for their master bedroom; something that would have a peaceful vibe and give them a starting point to make their remaining decor decisions. We worked together to create this board with images that captured the colors and feelings they were looking for in the piece. See below for the final result of this commission.

I am now creating wall murals in addition to works on canvas! The consultation process is the same; the artwork is bigger. Murals add so much personality to a space!

 Commission Details and FAQs

Creation of commissioned artwork is a very collaborative process, where trust and transparency are essential. I am outlining answers to a few commonly-asked questions below, and ask that you please reach out to me with any specific questions, requests, or concerns. No detail is too trivial! It’s my sincere goal the final piece to be something you cherish, and for you to come away with warm memories of the process.

  • Replications: I like to ensure that each piece is unique, but I am happy to create different versions of my existing paintings that are similar yet unique! Please note that exact color/detail matching is not always possible with my technique.

  • Pricing: Commissioned artwork and murals are priced by size and requirements. Sample pricing for works on canvas* is as follows (includes shipping).

    • 16x20 inches, $500

    • 24x24 inches, $700

    • 24x30 inches, $850

    • 30x40 inches, $1100

    • 36x48 inches, $1300

    • 40x60 inches, $1700

    • *Murals are priced at approximately $35 per square foot, all-inclusive (minimum project $2000); please contact me for details. Actual pricing will be determined for your specific project and agreed before beginning work.

  • Refunds: You are under no obligation to purchase the painting if you are not happy with the final result. The first invoice (50% of the total cost) can count toward credit in my shop, but is non-refundable. Once the final invoice is paid (50% of the total cost), no refunds, shop credit, or exchanges are provided.

  • Cancellation: If either party cancels the commission after the initial consultation/studies have taken place and before the painting has been started, I will provide a partial refund of the deposit payment. This refund will be the deposit amount (50% of the total cost) less $350; this $350 fee covers my time and materials for the consultation phase.

  • Works on Paper: I am not accepting commissions for works on paper at this time.

  • Copyright: I will retain the copyright for any commissioned artwork unless explicitly agreed otherwise; see FAQs for full copyright information.
